There has been much activity in Wales on conserving the Curlews that breed and winter there. Following the Welsh Curlew Conference held at Builth Wells in January 2018 (details available on the Conferences section of the website here), an active Welsh group has evolved under the title ‘Gylfinir Cymru/Curlew Wales’ with extensive support from Natural Resources Wales and the Welsh Curlew Champion, Mark Isherwood MS. The group is launching its Recovery Plan on 22 November, and those wishing to attend can register by following the instructions on the invitation below.
You are invited to:
Stopping Curlew Extinction: A Plan for Recovery in Wales
Monday 22nd November 2021, 13.45 -14.30
The curlew is Wales’ highest bird conservation priority where modelling of the Welsh curlew breeding population indicates it could be extinct as a breeding bird in Wales by 2033. Gylfinir Cymru / Curlew Wales, a broad partnership1 of Government and non-governmental organisations, are committed to preventing the extinction of curlew in Wales.
Gylfinir Cymru and Mark Isherwood MS, Curlew Species Champion, invite you to the launch of ‘A Wales Action Plan of the Recovery of Curlew’. The Action Plan, written by Gylfinir Cymru, sets out the actions needed to facilitate curlew recovery in Wales so future generations can enjoy and benefit from this iconic and once widespread bird.
We are delighted to have speakers including:
- Julie James MS, Minister for Climate Change
- Mark Isherwood MS, Curlew Species Champion
- Clare Pillman, CEO of Natural Resources Wales
