Getting to know your Curlew

The lady in the illustration is Mrs Irene Gibbons, of Aberedw [Radnorshire]. She would cross the field every day, and eventually could stop and look at the Curlew on its nest, then stroke it, and finally would be allowed to remove the eggs, look at them and replace them. Any stranger was greeted by normal behaviour in leaving the nest and calling.
